In the News

October 2022 - Thanks to Ken Connors at CJAD 800 in Montreal for having me on to chat about the public relations mess at Hockey Canada. This interview was conducted just a few days after the CEO and the entire board of directors of the organization stepped down. This situation will be a crisis management case study for many years to come and as I write this in October of 2022, the story is far from over. You can hear the full interview here.

September 2022 - I was one of several crisis communications professionals asked to comment for a Toronto Story story about CEO terminations. Here’s the intro to the article: “When companies such as Bell Media, Hockey Canada and others face controversy, they have to restore trust internally and with the public. Experts disagree on whether organizations should rally around their leaders or show them the door.” You can read the full story here.

July 2022 - Thanks to Jody Fisher for having me on the PR Podcast to chat about media relations, media training and how people can better prepare for their media interviews. You can listen to the episode here.

June 2022 - Thank you to Molly McPherson for having me on the Indestructible PR Podcast. The topic for this episode was ‘A Week in Press Conferences: The Good and Not So Good’. We discussed the changes in the media environment, Matthew McConaughey’s reactions to the school shooting in Texas, the importance of staying in your lane, the importance of training your spokespeople and more. You can listen to the episode here.

February 2022 - Thank you to Robert Tornabene for having me as a guest on The PIO Podcast. We chatted about media relations, media interviews, media training techniques and how people can better prepare for successful media interactions. You can listen to the episode here.

June 2021 - Thanks to Diana Bradley at PR Week for doing a short piece on the new line of ‘swag for hardcore communications nerds’ that I created this spring. The idea for these products sprang from my ‘365 Crisis Tips’ series that I did on Twitter during the pandemic. One day, I sent out a tip and one of my followers said, “That would look great on a T-shirt.” I designed about a dozen items (mainly t-shirts and coffee mugs) that feature either crisis management tips or other communications/PR mantras and slogans and made them available for sale on my website. You can read the PR Week story here. And you can check out the PR/comms merch selection here.

February 2021 - Thanks again to Ken Connors at CJAD in Montreal for having me on to talk about the Bruce Springsteen DWI and how it relates to his Super Bowl ad for Jeep. Always a treat to speak with Ken. You can listen to the interview here.

November 2020 - Thanks very much to Molly MacPherson for having me on The Confident Communications Podcast to talk about the nuances of media interviews and media training. I enjoyed our chat so much! Hopefully there are one or two ideas in this conversation that will help you become a better media spokesperson. If you’re in the communications profession, I encourage you to follow Molly and subscribe to her podcast. You can listen to the interview here.

September 2020 - Thanks to Ken Connors at CJAD in Montreal for having me on his show to talk about Ellen DeGeneres’s recent statement/apology about the allegations of a toxic work culture at her show. This radio interview came after I posted a 10-minute video breaking down Ellen’s apology statement by statement and looking at it through the eyes of someone in the crisis management business. Hope you enjoy listening to it. Click here to listen to the radio interview.

March 2020 - Thanks to the folks at the Ontario Real Estate Association for having me on as the first guest of their Real Estate Addition podcast! It was a blast chatting with host Dave Bastl and OREA President Sean Morrison. The main focus of the episode was how realtors can use social media tools and platforms to grow awareness of their brands and help drive business and sales in an authentic and effective way. For a short podcast (37 minutes), we covered a lot of territory. Hope you find some useful tips here. Thanks for listening. To check out the podcast episode, please click here.

January 2020 - I was honoured to be a guest on the Top Advisor Marketing Podcast. While this episode was geared toward advisors, there are a lot of useful tactics in this episode for anyone looking to increase their awareness using public relations or social media strategies. We talked about why it’s worthwhile to pitch trade publications, the importance of investing time and effort into your LinkedIn profile, the social media platforms that tend to get the media’s attention, how to create more engaging news releases and more. May 2019 - A Twitter thread that Warren started, in which he offered to provide people with the media relations lessons from their favourite movies, became wildly popular and was picked up by PR Week, which listed some of their top selections from the thread. Read the full story here. And if you’d like to submit a movie title to this thread, you can do so by replying to this tweet.

April 2019 - Warren was quoted in the Daily Commercial News about crisis communications and what organizations need to do to protect their brands and reputations when something goes wrong in their operations. The basis for this article was a talk he did at the Ontario General Contractors Association’s 11th Construction Symposium, held in Blue Mountain, Ontario. Read the full story here.
