Media Training Calgary | Warren Weeks
Alberta organizations know a thing or two about media scrutiny. Are your spokespeople ready?
From energy sector controversies to long-term care issues, property management disputes to major conference announcements, Calgary's media environment is fast-moving and unforgiving. CBC Calgary. CTV. Global. The Calgary Herald. The Globe's Alberta bureau. When the story involves your organization, you need spokespeople who are prepared…not learning on the fly.
The good news: I come to you.
Deep Alberta Roots
I've been delivering media training to Alberta organizations for decades — across industries, across the province and across every level of seniority. Oil and gas executives preparing for hostile environmental questioning. Long-term care organizations navigating sensitive public health issues. Property management companies managing reputational risk. Conference keynotes and workshops for communications professionals across the sector.
Alberta clients get the same thing every client gets: a fully customized session built around their organization, their industry and the real issues their spokespeople are likely to face. No generic programs. No junior trainers. Just me, fully prepared, with your team.
Calgary Organizations Face Distinctive Media Pressures
Alberta's energy sector operates under some of the most intense national and international media scrutiny of any industry in Canada. Environmental journalists, investigative reporters and out-of-province media who arrive in Calgary with an agenda. Your spokespeople need to be ready for all of them.
Beyond energy, Calgary's booming economy means organizations across real estate, healthcare, financial services, technology and the non-profit sector are increasingly in the public eye. The media landscape has grown to match. Whatever your sector, if your organization interacts with reporters (or might someday), preparation is not optional.
What a Session Looks Like
Every session begins with a thorough understanding of your organization…your issues, your industry and what your spokespeople are likely to face. From there, we develop and stress-test your key messages as a group, then put each participant through a series of simulated media interviews (in print, radio and television formats), conducted by a veteran journalist playing the role of reporter.
It's as close to the real thing as you can get. Participants leave knowing exactly how reporters think, what they're looking for and how to tell their organization's story clearly and effectively under pressure.
Sessions are available in half-day and full-day formats, for groups of any size, and for individual executives requiring focused one-on-one preparation.
Virtual Sessions Also Available
For Calgary-based organizations that prefer remote delivery, virtual sessions are available and every bit as rigorous as the in-person experience. Ideal for geographically dispersed Alberta teams or situations where bringing everyone into a room isn't practical.
Let's Talk
If your organization is based in Calgary or anywhere in Alberta, I'd be glad to have a conversation about your media training needs and put together a proposal. No obligation, no sales pressure.
